Nature, in general, gives me peace of mind. There is something deeply soothing about exploring the lakes around Bangalore. Every visit feels like a quiet reminder that nature still has stories to tell — if only we pause to listen. Over time, I have been fortunate to witness some truly unexpected species in these places.

This particular lake near Doddaballapur was beautiful in its own quiet way. While there were not many species apart from a few Spot-billed Ducks and Cormorants, the place came alive with the songs of small birds — singing, calling out, perhaps communicating with friends or rivals. Moments like these make one slow down and simply observe.

Unfortunately, being a lake close to Bangalore, it also attracts a considerable amount of garbage. Waste is dumped carelessly, with little thought for the ecosystem that quietly sustains so much life. As a visitor, one cannot help but wonder who is responsible for maintaining and protecting such spaces. Perhaps this is merely the observation of a layman — someone unfamiliar with the laws, administration, or ownership of the land. Yet, impressions matter, and one is left thinking about what more could be done.

The first question that comes to mind is: “As an individual, what can I do?”

Well, I am doing what I can — I am writing about it, hoping someone reads this and feels inspired to act. Hope, after all, is one thing we should never lose.
